The IRCC Board is excited to begin 2022 with a community favorite event – Anand Bazaar – celebrating Republic Day, Uttarayan (with kite flying), and Lohri – all rolled into one! Member food stalls to sell delicious cuisine will be back! Kites and thread will be available for sale. We cannot wait to see everyone back at this outdoor event to be held on January 30, 2022 from 11 am to 4 pm.
Youth club elections will also be held. High school students can apply to run for positions on the youth club leadership board.
Registration for food stalls and youth club elections will all be done online. Registration forms will be available on the website from January 3-27, 2022.
The Uttarayan festival is celebrated in a big way in the state of Gujarat, India, with kites covering the sky in a festive atmosphere. This day, usually celebrated in the middle of January is considered to be one of the biggest harvest days in India. In Punjab, it is celebrated as Lohri with songs being sung around the fire. All over India, there are varied traditions to celebrate the harvest.
The IRCC Board is very keen on moving forward with events in 2022, especially this one which is an outdoor event in an open area. We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation especially since the health of our community is at stake. We encourage all attendees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and also take the booster shot if eligible. We are continuing to plan for this event full steam ahead and are very hopeful that we will be able to meet all of you on January 30!
