“Diwali Day” Update! Members of the greater Hindu Community showed up at the Broward County School Board meeting with over 1000 additional signatures from other students and parents Our goal was to show that we are serious about our request to add “Diwali Day” to the school calendar.
By showing up in person, we have started the process of being visible to the School Board and the Calendar Committee. Although this school year is almost over, we can have an impact on the 2024/2025 calendar that will be approved in December. We will be hosting a public awareness event at the SFHT where members if the school board will help us educate and update the greater community on our progress/process.
What’s next? Members of the Hindu committee who serve on the Diversity committee will engage with School Board members who support us to move forward.
We need everyone to spread the updates among all community orgs, social circles and attend upcoming meetings. When implemented, Hindu students will have the day off to celebrate this most significant day with their families and community just like their Muslim and Jewish friends do for Eid/Ramadan and Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur.
Let’s keep signing and send emails to all nine School Board members until the voice of 50k plus Hindus are heard and this is official. ✍🏽https://cohna.org/diwali-broward-schools/
